DILI, 12 June 2025 (TATOLI) – Cambodian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Chun Sovannarith, praised the Timorese government for its dedicated efforts to accelerate preparations for its upcoming accession to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), scheduled for October 2025.
Following his meeting with Vice Prime Minister Mariano Assanami Sabino on Tuesday, Ambassador Chun Sovannarith said Cambodia appreciates Timor-Leste’s steadfast efforts in meeting the ASEAN roadmaps required for joining the regional bloc.
He extended gratitude to the Cambodian Parliament and Senate President Hun Sen—who recently visited Timor-Leste—for their ongoing support throughout Timor-Leste’s path to full ASEAN membership.
Highlighting the deepening diplomatic ties, Ambassador Sovannarith expressed optimism that relations between the two countries will continue to strengthen under the shared framework of ASEAN.
The Ambassador also acknowledged Timor-Leste’s visible progress in areas such as human resource development and infrastructure, noting the country’s strides in both physical and institutional growth.
In addition, he praised the warmth and hospitality of the Timorese people during the Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen’s second visit to Dili on May 5, 2025.
Vice Prime Minister Assanami expressed appreciation for Cambodia’s steadfast support and affirmed Timor-Leste’s commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in the future.
