DILI, 16 June 2025 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to South Korea, delivered a distinguished guest lecture at Korea University (KU) this week, marking his second academic engagement of this kind—following his initial appearance at Seoul National University (SNU).

The lecture, entitled “The Political Government System of Timor-Leste,” was part of the undergraduate course on Southeast Asian Politics offered by the Department of Political Science and International Relations. It was hosted by Professor Jee Hyeok Shin, a renowned scholar and Director of the Korea University Institute for Sustainability (KUIS), Korea University ASEAN Center (KUAC), and Vice President of the Korean Association of Southeast Asian Studies (KASEAS).

The session drew an enthusiastic audience of 96 undergraduate and two master’s students, who engaged deeply with the presentation.

Ambassador Benevides opened with a short introductory video that highlighted Timor-Leste’s history, development journey, and core values. His lecture was followed by an interactive Q&A session, during which students expressed keen interest in the country’s language, culture, and political landscape both domestic and international.

Also in attendance were Marciano Fernandes, a staff member of the Timor-Leste’s Embassy in Korea, along with two bright student interns from Australia: Diliania (RMIT University, Melbourne) and Millie (Australian National University, ANU).

Timor-Leste’s Embassy thanked the Korea University for its warm hospitality and continued commitment to fostering mutual understanding and academic exchange between the Republic of Korea and Timor-Leste. This vibrant engagement underscores our shared vision for peace, democracy, and regional cooperation.
