DILI, 21 July 2025 (TATOLI) — President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta said the 12th CPLP Games hosted in Timor-Leste represent a meaningful and enriching experience for the nation.
Speaking at Nicolau Lobato International Airport upon his return from Guinea-Bissau, Horta praised the government’s commitment in organizing the event, despite the absence of some member states and the logistical challenges of reaching Timor-Leste.
He emphasized that beyond the sporting competitions, the country continues to gain global visibility through major events such as the visit of Pope Francis last year and various cultural, academic, and sporting activities.
The President also announced that Timor-Leste will host a Nobel Peace Laureates Summit next year, organized by the Presidency in partnership with the government, with delegations from over ten countries already confirmed.
Looking ahead, Horta noted that Timor-Leste will face new challenges related to its ASEAN accession, which will require improved national capacity to host international events and strengthen its regional engagement.
