DILI, 21 July 2025 (TATOLI) – Portugal’s women’s beach volleyball team extended their winning streak at the 12th CPLP Games, reinforcing their status as top contenders for the gold medal.
On the second day of competition in Dili, the Portuguese duo Inês Silva and Matidel Silva delivered a commanding performance, defeating Cape Verde’s Catarina Fonseca and Maria Clara Lima in straight sets.
Portugal dominated the opening set with a decisive 21-10 win, showcasing precise teamwork and strong court control.
Although Cape Verde attempted a comeback in the second set with improved strategy, Portugal maintained their lead to close the match 21-17.
Following the match, Inês Silva expressed satisfaction with their performance and voiced confidence in their chances of winning gold.
“We’re not just representing ourselves, we’re representing our country. We believe we can win and take home the gold medal,” Inês told Tatoli.
Cape Verde’s Catarina Fonseca acknowledged Portugal’s strength, describing the match as a valuable learning experience despite the loss.
“Playing against Portugal was challenging—they’ve proven their strength—but it was also a good opportunity for us to grow and prepare for the next matches,” she said.
With this result, Portugal strengthens its position as a leading contender for the women’s beach volleyball title, as the tournament continues through July 25, 2025.
