DILI, 28 July 2025 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco da Costa Monteiro, met with top executives from Santos on Friday, 25 July 2025, to explore future plans for the Bayu-Undan facility.
The Santos delegation was led by Executive Vice President Alan Stuart-Grant and Senior Vice President for Commercial, Petter Undem.
The discussions focused on using the Bayu-Undan field for Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) while continuing to extract the remaining gas reserves.
Both sides reviewed a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at guiding joint work on CCS and gas production.
They agreed to finalise and sign the MoU in the coming weeks.
The agreement will support Timor-Leste’s goals for energy transition, economic value creation, and better use of existing infrastructure.
Minister Monteiro stressed the need for open and technical cooperation to assess whether CCS and gas production can operate side by side.
He welcomed Santos’ ongoing partnership and reaffirmed the Government’s support for CCS efforts at Bayu-Undan.
He also highlighted the site’s potential as a long-term energy hub for the region.
