DÍLI, 20 July 2026 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, on Monday, presided over the inauguration of the Central Concrete Production Factory in Liquiçá, hailing the new facility as a pivotal step towards Timor-Leste’s economic self-sufficiency and diversification.
Addressing a distinguished gathering that included the Deputy Prime Minister Mariano Assanami Sabino, President of Liquiça Municpal Authority, Paulino Ribeiro and other government officials, President Ramos-Horta underscored the project’s importance in reducing imports, fostering local manufacturing, creating employment opportunities, and advancing professional technical training for Timorese citizens.
In his remarks, President Ramos-Horta highlighted the enduring historical ties between Timor-Leste and China, noting that Chinese merchants arrived in Timor as early as the 1400s, predating Portuguese presence.
The Head of State paid tribute to the long-standing contributions of the Chinese-Timorese community, particularly their sacrifices during the struggle for independence and their continuous role in the nation’s economic development, including in vital sectors like coffee trade.
The President further encouraged continued partnerships between Timorese entrepreneurs and international investors from various countries, emphasizing that such collaborations are crucial for advancing the nation’s progress.
President Ramos-Horta concluded by expressing his gratitude to the government and the Liquiça Municipality for their efforts in streamlining bureaucratic processes and accelerating project implementation, which he noted is essential for attracting further investment.
