DILI, 13 August 2025 (TATOLI) – Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Agio Pereira, met with Jorge Alves ‘We Moris’, Executive Director of the Timorese Resistance Archive and Museum (AMRT), and his team to discuss preparations for cultural activities marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Armed Forces for the National Liberation of Timor-Leste (FALINTIL).
During the meeting, the AMRT team presented plans for cultural ceremonies scheduled for August 14, 2025, as part of the broader celebration of the 50th anniversary of the National Liberation Struggle.
In a statement accessed by TATOLI News Agency, Executive Director Alves emphasized that this year, Timor-Leste commemorates 50 years of pivotal historical events that define national identity and sovereignty – such as Nicolau Lobato’s heroic journey on August 11, 1975; the general armed uprising in 1975; the founding of FALINTIL on August 20, 1975; and the unilateral declaration of independence on November 28, 1975.
“To honor these milestones, AMRT will host cultural ceremonies led by Lia-na’in Bidau Manu Mata, Karketu Mota Ain, and Lakotu Rumbia, representing sacred houses from the 12 municipalities and the Special Administrative Region of Oecusse. These ceremonies will take place on August 14, 2025. Additional AMRT activities will also be held in Aileu municipality,” he said.
On this occasion, Minister Pereira congratulated the AMRT team for their thorough preparations and the well-developed program concept, which will be implemented both at AMRT and in Aileu.
Minister Pereira stressed the importance of educating the younger generation about the history of Timor-Leste’s guerrilla fighters and honoring their legacy by sharing their stories in meaningful and respectful ways.
