DILI, 15 August 2025 (TATOLI) – President José Ramos-Horta will visit Japan from 21 to 29 August at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru.
The National Parliament unanimously approved the trip during an extraordinary plenary session chaired by Acting Speaker Maria Teresinha Viegas on Thursday.
According to the Presidential Office, Ramos-Horta’s agenda includes several official and diplomatic engagements. On 22 August, he will meet members of the Japanese Parliament.
The President will also deliver a public lecture at the University of Tokyo on the theme Leadership Beyond Borders Through Transforming Asia-Pacific Relations as part of The Harvard College Project for Asian and International Relations conference, held under the motto Reinventing Vitality: Momentum and Memory.
On 27 August, Ramos-Horta will travel to Fukuyama to visit the Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Company’s shipyards. The following day, he will attend Timor-Leste’s National Day celebrations at Expo Osaka 2025, representing the country at the international event.
The visit is part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between Timor-Leste and Japan in diplomacy, trade, and academia.
