Govt approves US$10 million to support victims of forest fires in Portugal

DILI, 27 August 2025 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the Council of Ministers meeting held on Wednesday, approved a donation of US$10 million to support victims of the recent forest fires in Portugal.

The draft Government Resolution, presented by Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, was unanimously approved by the Council of Ministers.

On this occasion, the Council expressed its solidarity with the Government and people of Portugal, who are facing the devastating impact of forest fires that have recently affected the northern and central regions of the country. The fires have destroyed approximately 248,000 hectares of forest and claimed human lives.

“In this context, a draft Government Resolution, presented by Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, was approved, authorizing the donation of US$10 million to the Portuguese Republic to support recovery efforts following the damage caused by the fires,” read a statement accessed by TATOLI today.
