DILI, 17 October 2025 (TATOLI) — On October 16, 2025, Kimura Tetsuya, Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste, attended the inauguration ceremony of Maubara Junior High School in Liquiça Municipality. He was joined by the Minister of Education, the President of the Liquiça Municipal Authority, and other relevant officials.
The ceremony was hosted by the Foundation of Improving Rural Economic Development (HADER), a local NGO that implemented the project, with the participation of its staff and community members.
Ambassador Kimura stated, “Japan has also long recognized education as a fundamental pillar of development. We have constructed more than 40 school buildings particularly in rural area across the country,” adding, “we expect these projects to bring significant positive and sustainable changes to the lives of the people and children in Maubara.”
For this project, the Government of Japan provided USD 72,992 through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme. The new school building in Maubara, Vaviquinia Village, is expected to provide a safe learning environment and improve the quality of education in the area.
Since the launch of the first project in 2000, 146 projects have been implemented under the GGP scheme across all 12 municipalities and RAEOA of Timor-Leste. These initiatives have primarily supported improvements to community infrastructure, including the construction and rehabilitation of school facilities, public clinics, and water supply systems, addressing a broad range of basic human needs at the grassroots level.
