DILI, 15 September 2025 (TATOLI)—This August, a collaborative initiative unveiled the profound beauty of Timor-Leste to a delegation of 17 key Australian travel professionals. Hosted by the HOTL Association and Airnorth, this effort was generously supported by the Australian Government, through the Market Development Facility (MDF) Program, and the New Zealand Embassy, through The Asia Foundation.
The delegation, comprising senior travel managers, wholesalers, and top sellers from across Australia, experienced one of two meticulously crafted Familiarization (FAM) itineraries, each offering a unique lens through which to experience Asia’s newest nation.
1. The Emerging Destination Itinerary (Aug 18-22)
This journey served as a refined introduction to the nation’s soul. Participants delved into Dili’s poignant history at the Resistance Museum and Santa Cruz Cemetery, savored exquisite cuisine at venues like the Sky Bar, and embraced serene coastal beauty. The experience featured a tranquil visit to the Tibar Mangroves, a picturesque sunset at Cristo Rey, and a scenic excursion to the breathtaking coastline of Atauro Island.
2. The Adventure Itinerary (Aug 25-29)
Crafted for the adventure explorer, this deep dive combined physical challenge with rich cultural immersion. The unforgettable pinnacle was a pre-dawn trek to the summit of sacred Mount Ramelau for a breathtaking sunrise. The adventure wove through the highlands with tours of renowned coffee farms and a moving historical exploration of Balibo Fortress. It balanced intensity with serenity on a guided hike to the secluded oasis of Mota Dokomali for a swim and an authentic cultural welcome ceremony with local communities.
