DILI, 03 October 2025 (TATOLI) — The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) and telecommunications operator Telkomcel have signed an agreement to strengthen Timor-Leste’s digital economy.
The agreement was signed by Telkomcel Vice President of Finance and Business Partner, Dedy Edward, and MCI Director-General of Industry, Martins Magno, in a ceremony attended by Minister Filipus Nino Pereira and Telkomcel Executive Director, Benedictus Ardiyanto Priyo, at Timor Plaza in Dili.
Minister Pereira said the initiative marks a key step for the country’s economic future. “Technology is essential to support micro, small, and medium enterprises. As a young nation, Timor-Leste must prioritize digital transformation to create opportunities and boost the economy,” he said.
The Minister added that with the country’s entry into the World Trade Organization and upcoming ASEAN integration, digitalization will play an even greater role in national development.
Telkomcel Executive Director Benedictus Ardiyanto Priyo called the partnership “a moment of joy,” saying digital innovation is vital for national growth. “This is an inspiring commitment and a strong mandate for Telkomcel to support Timor-Leste’s economic and industrial progress,” he said.
He noted that the collaboration reflects the company’s vision to “Serve with Heart and Create Impact in Society,” emphasizing Telkomcel’s commitment to building a robust digital ecosystem, particularly for micro, small, and medium enterprises.
“We believe an inclusive digital economy requires everyone’s participation — government, private sector, and society. Digitalization is not just about technology, but about collective effort,” Priyo concluded.
