DILI, 21 October 2025 (TATOLI) – UNICEF Timor-Leste has delivered 12,800 doses of the rotavirus vaccine to the National Institute of Pharmacy and Medicines (INFPM), according to the Ministry of Health’s Head of the Immunization Department, Maria Angelina Pereira.

She said that the rotavirus vaccine had been out of stock for nearly a year and emphasized its importance in protecting children from severe infections that can cause acute gastroenteritis, marked by diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and dehydration.

Pereira said the Ministry of Health is intensifying awareness campaigns in communities to encourage parents to vaccinate their children.

“Parents should also prepare clean and healthy food to help prevent rotavirus infection,” she added.

The INFPM had allocated US$107,000 to UNICEF for the purchase of these vaccines. The funding also covered the acquisition of vaccines against tetanus and diphtheria, Pereira said.
