DILI, 13 November 2025 (TATOLI) – President and Nobel Peace Laureate, Jose Ramos-Horta, expressed his profound sorrow and deepest solidarity with the people and Government of the Philippines following the devastation caused by Typhoon Fung-wong.
The powerful typhoon struck the northern regions of the Philippines, resulting in the loss of lives, the displacement of more than one million people, and extensive material damage, at a time when the country was still recovering from the destruction left by Typhoon Kalmaegi.
In a formal letter addressed to His Excellency Mr. Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. President of the Republic of the Philippines, President Ramos-Horta conveyed the sincere condolences of the people of Timor-Leste.
“It is with profound sorrow that I received the tragic news of the devastation caused by Typhoon Fung-wong. On behalf of the people of Timor-Leste, I wish to extend to Your Excellency, to the Government and to the people of the Philippines, my sincere condolences and the deepest solidarity of Timor-Leste to the families of the victims, as well as to those displaced or suffering as a result of this natural disaster.”
President further emphasized the shared bond between the two nations, added, “The Timorese people share with the Filipino people their grief and compassion during this period of mourning and hardship, and we express our admiration for the courage, resilience, and spirit of mutual assistance that have always characterized the people of the Philippines in the face of adversity.”
President Ramos-Horta concluded his letter with assurances his highest consideration and respect to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., underscoring the close bonds of friendship and solidarity between the two nations.
