DILI, 08 December 2025 (TATOLI) – The Presidency of the Republic, in collaboration with relevant Ministries of the IX Constitutional Government and the Municipality of Liquiça, is hosting a seminar titled “National Unity Ensures the Sustainability of the State and the Nation.” This event is part of a reflective cycle marking the 50th anniversary of the invasion.
The two-day gathering is being held in Vatuboro village, Loes, Liquiça Municipality, a site of profound historical significance. From 1975 to 1979, the Northern Frontier resistance base in Loes was composed of four key companies: the Bubu Api Company in Vatuboro, the Tata Bei Company in Gugleur, the Manus Company in Guiço, the Magarapo Company in Lizadila, and the Ramhana Company in Tatabei. The Ramhana Company notably included members from Manatuto, Baucau, Lospalos, and Viqueque.
This reflection event blends solemn remembrance with cultural activities to strengthen community bonds and the spirit of national resilience.
The first day, December 6, focused on community and commemoration. Activities included a tree-planting ceremony, a Holy Mass in memory of National Heroes, and traditional sports competitions. The day concluded with musical entertainment celebrating Timorese culture and shared memory.
December 7 is dedicated to deep reflection on the nation’s past and future. President Ramos-Horta presided over the opening session, emphasizing the enduring legacy of the struggle. “Our unity is built through common sacrifice. This is the solid foundation for the sustainability of our State and the prosperous future of our Nation,” stated President Ramos-Horta.
The Municipal Council of the National Liberation Combatants (CMCLN) of Liquiçá presented former commanders and combatants from the Bubu Api, Tata-Bei, Tata-Bei, Manus, and Lissadila companies. The day also emphasized community solidarity, with the distribution of Christmas parcels to 150 families from three villages in the Loes, Liquiça Municipality. The evening will feature a screening of a historical 1975 documentary from the Archive and Museum of the Timorese Resistance (AMRT), followed by a concert.
This reflection on the 50th anniversary is both a tribute to the past and a renewed commitment to a united future.
