DILI, 11 december 2025 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão said Timor-Leste and Indonesia have shown “a strong willingness to finally resolve” the issue of maritime boundaries, announcing that the third round of negotiations will take place in April 2026.
The announcement was part of a statement issued after the second round of maritime boundary negotiations, conducted from 8 to 10 december in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
“I cannot say that negotiations are concluded, but I hope they will resume in april and that we can move towards consensus. I am not fully satisfied, although I acknowledge progress: there was an exchange of ideas and openness from both sides. That is an essential principle in this process,” Xanana Gusmão said.
The first official meeting between Timor-Leste and Indonesia on maritime boundary delimitation took place in august in Dili.
