DILI, 11 december 2025 (TATOLI) -The World Food Programme (WFP), in support of the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion (MSSI), the Ministry of Health (MOH), and the Manatuto Municipal Authority, launched this week the distribution of Specialised Nutritious Foods (SNF) to vulnerable pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under three years of age.
Held at the Soibada Administrative Post, the launch brought together government leaders, local authorities, the French Cooperation Office, and WFP to officially begin distributing fortified foods to improve maternal and child nutrition in Timor-Leste. The initiative will start in Manatuto and expand to Aileu, Ainaro, and Baucau, benefiting nearly 8,500 mothers and young children by delivering 153 metric tonnes of SNF, including Super Cereal and Super Cereal Plus—fortified, blended foods designed to meet their nutritional needs.
Timor-Leste continues to face high rates of malnutrition among children under five and women of reproductive age. Through this joint effort, WFP and the Government of Timor-Leste are working to strengthen social protection and health systems to ensure that vulnerable families receive the nutrition they need. While resources remain limited and nationwide coverage is not yet possible, partners reaffirm their commitment to reducing and preventing malnutrition nationwide.
“This launch reflects the power of partnership,” said WFP’s Country Director. “Together with MSSI, MOH, and the support of the Government of France, we are taking an important step toward improving nutrition for mothers and children in Timor-Leste. While challenges remain, our commitment to ending malnutrition is unwavering.”
The Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts: “Through this initiative, we are strengthening social protection and ensuring that vulnerable families receive the support they need for a healthier future.”
The distribution is made possible by the generous support of the Government of France, which funded the procurement of specialised nutritious foods.
