DILI, 15 december 2025 (TATOLI) — President Jose Ramos-Horta on Monday received the Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste, Kimura Tetsuya, at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace for a farewell courtesy call, marking the conclusion of the ambassador’s diplomatic mission, which is set to end in early January.
During the meeting, Ambassador Kimura expressed his appreciation to the head of state for the guidance and support extended throughout his tenure, noting the productive engagement and the strengthening of diplomatic relations between Timor-Leste and Japan.
The discussion included a review of several key strategic projects currently underway. Ambassador Kimura briefed the president on the planned construction of the new passenger terminal at Nicolau Lobato International Airport, with implementation scheduled for next year, and on the ongoing improvement works at the Guido Valadares National Hospital.
He also highlighted progress in two major private sector initiatives, including projects in shipbuilding and the development of a mega solar power plant.
President Ramos-Horta welcomed the advances made on these large-scale initiatives and thanked Ambassador Kimura for his effort, dedication, and contribution to deepening bilateral cooperation. The president acknowledged the progress achieved during the ambassador’s term and reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation and ties with Japan in the future.
