Govt approves theme for Timor-Leste’s pro tempore CPLP presidency

DILI, 11 february 2026 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste has approved “Consolidation of the Democratic Rule of Law – Challenges for the CPLP” as the theme of its pro tempore Presidency of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) for 2026–2027.

The theme was approved by the Council of Ministers during its meeting on wednesday, February 11.

During the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas, presented the program and budgetary plan for Timor-Leste’s leadership of the international Portuguese-speaking organisation.

The presentation outlined a series of ministerial meetings, technical meetings, sectoral initiatives and institutional activities to be held during the presidency.

The presentation also highlighted preparations for the 30th anniversary of the CPLP, to be marked on 17 july.

According to the government, details were provided on the schedules, venues and funding parameters for the planned events.

Timor-Leste will assume the rotating presidency of the CPLP for the 2026–2027 period, during which it is expected to host high-level gatherings and advance cooperation among member states.
