DILI, 03 february 2026 (TATOLI) – President José Ramos-Horta has called for ethical and courageous leadership in responding to global crises, speaking at the Human Fraternity Majlis in Abu Dhabi on 3 february 2026.
The President joined a distinguished panel of world leaders and humanitarian figures to discuss “Humanitarian Response in Action: Leading with Courage, Compassion & Integrity.”
Appearing alongside fellow Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi and UNODC Director-General Ghada Waly, the President explored the urgent need for leadership models that prioritize ethics and moral courage in the face of global crises.
The session focused on creating rapid-response strategies and multi-sector partnerships to protect communities vulnerable to natural disasters and armed conflicts, emphasizing that compassion must be the driving force behind international aid.
During the high-level dialogue, President Ramos-Horta drew upon Timor-Leste’s profound history of overcoming conflict and fostering reconciliation as a model for global resilience.
The Head of the State emphasized that the Timorese experience provides vital lessons for the international community in building peace and humanitarian responsibility.
By participating in this prestigious forum, the Head of State reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s enduring commitment to universal dignity and human fraternity, positioning Timor-Leste as a proactive contributor to the global pursuit of a more compassionate and effective humanitarian response.
