DILI, 11 february 2026 (TATOLI) – The Council of Ministers has authorised an expenditure of US$121.9 million to support the country’s electricity supply service.
Following a proposal by the Minister of Public Works, Samuel Marçal, the Council approved the transfer of funds from the General State Budget to EDTL, EP, under the “802 Electricity” programme, with a view to ensuring the public service of electricity supply.
The allocation is intended to reinforce the operational capacity of Eletricidade de Timor-Leste (EDTL), EP, and ensure the continued delivery of electricity services nationwide.
The decision forms part of the Government’s broader efforts to maintain essential public services and strengthen the country’s energy sector.
During the meeting, the government also authorised the expenditure and launch of a procurement procedure for the construction of a drinking water supply system in Baucau.
The project is described as a structural initiative designed to ensure the regular and safe supply of water fit for human consumption to the population in Baucau.
The project is based on previously validated technical studies and is estimated to cost approximately US$23.4 million.
The initiative aims to improve public health and enhance the quality of life for local communities by strengthening access to safe and reliable drinking water.
The approval marks a significant step toward upgrading water infrastructure in Baucau and reinforcing essential public services in the municipality.
