DILI,31 March 2026 (TATOLI ) – From March 29 to April 2, 2026, Major General Andrew J. Chevalier, Adjutant General of the Rhode Island National Guard, visited Dili to engage with Timor-Leste’s national leaders and institutions. The visit focused on enhancing bilateral security cooperation, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) capabilities, and educational initiatives through the State Partnership Program with Rhode Island.
During his visit, MG Chevalier met with the President, Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, Chief of F-FDTL, and Secretary of State for Civil Protection to discuss strengthening bilateral security cooperation, enhancing HADR capabilities, and expanding educational and professional development opportunities. The conversations focused on improving coordination and response among Timor-Leste’s security and emergency agencies, advancing joint training and exchange programs, and promoting regional stability and resilience in the Indo-Pacific.
He also joined government officials in the groundbreaking ceremony for the installation of Timor-Leste’s first national Emergency Radio Communications Network, a significant milestone that will strengthen communication and coordination among the National Police of Timor-Leste, Civil Protection Agency, F-FDTL, and ambulance services. In addition, MG Chevalier visited the Resistance Museum and the National University of Timor-Leste, engaging with students, early-career professionals, and military officers to highlight the importance of education and professional development.
MG Chevalier’s visit reinforced the enduring partnership between the United States and Timor-Leste, demonstrating shared commitment to security, resilience, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
