DÍLI, 09 April 2026 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste recorded its first win at the ASEAN Futsal Championship, defeating Myanmar 3-1 in a group-stage match held yesterday in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
The game began evenly, with both sides contesting possession. Myanmar, already out of contention for tournament qualification, attempted to challenge Timor-Leste’s play but struggled to convert their chances.
The Timorese team, showing determination and cohesion, capitalized on opportunities to take the lead.
Timor-Leste went into halftime 2-1 up, their sharp attack and steadfast defense denying Myanmar any chance of a comeback.
In the second half, Myanmar intensified their pressure in search of an equalizer but failed to find the net.
Timor-Leste maintained composure, demonstrating strong teamwork and controlling the pace of the match. A late third goal sealed the 3-1 victory.
Despite this win, Timor-Leste did not advance past the group stage, following earlier defeats against Thailand (1-4) and Vietnam (1-7).
The victory over Myanmar allowed Timor-Leste to finish third in their group with three points, while Myanmar ended at the bottom with no points.
The result, however, provided a morale boost for Timor-Leste, highlighting the team’s growing competitiveness in regional futsal tournaments.
