HANOI, 09 June 2026 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão received an official welcome ceremony at the Government Headquarters in Hanoi on Tuesday, hosted by Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, as part of his official visit to Vietnam and participation in the ASEAN Future Forum 2026.
The ceremony was conducted with full state honors, reflecting the growing friendship and cooperation between Timor-Leste and Vietnam. Following the welcome ceremony, Prime Minister Xanana and Prime Minister Hung held bilateral talks to review the progress of cooperation and discuss new opportunities for partnership in areas of mutual interest.
During the visit, both leaders witnessed the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation. The agreements cover key sectors, including visa exemption, education, higher education, and institutional cooperation between TATOLI News Agency and the Vietnam News Agency.
The cooperation agreements are expected to create new opportunities for exchanges between the two countries, promote capacity building, and strengthen people-to-people relations while supporting Timor-Leste’s development priorities and ASEAN integration process.
Prime Minister Xanana’s official visit comes at an important moment for Timor-Leste following its accession as ASEAN’s 11th member. The visit aims to deepen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in strategic sectors such as education, trade, investment, media, and regional development.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the traditional friendship and cooperation between Timor-Leste and Vietnam, while exploring new avenues of collaboration that will benefit the peoples of both nations.
