DILI, 16 June 2026 (TATOLI) — Francisco Kalbuadi Lay has been re-elected president of the Timor-Leste Olympic Committee (CONTL) for a four-year term during the organization’s General Assembly in Dili.

The election took place on June 14 at Timor Plaza and was attended by 25 delegates representing national sports federations, who reaffirmed their confidence in Lay’s leadership and the achievements recorded during his previous term.

Speaking after the vote, Lay expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him by the member federations and acknowledged the responsibility that comes with a renewed mandate.

“I would like to sincerely thank all National Federations for the trust they have placed in me. This re-election is not only a personal honor but also a collective responsibility to continue strengthening sport in Timor-Leste, supporting our athletes, and promoting Olympic values throughout the country,” Lay said in a statement.

Lay reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with national sports federations, government agencies, athletes, coaches and development partners to strengthen the country’s sports sector.

He said the committee would prioritize creating more opportunities for Timorese athletes and enhancing their competitiveness at international events.

Meanwhile, Minister of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture Nelyo Isaac Sarmento reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing sports in Timor-Leste, highlighting the Timor-Leste Olympic Committee’s role as a key partner in creating opportunities for athletes and promoting the country’s sporting achievements at home and abroad.
