Interior Minister Guterres invited to attend Global Public Security Cooperation Forum in China

DÍLI, 24 July 2026 (TATOLI) – Chinese Ambassador to Timor-Leste Wang Wenli met Interior Minister Francisco da Costa Guterres to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in law enforcement and policing, including joint efforts to combat telecommunications and cyber fraud.
The meeting focused on expanding practical cooperation between the two countries in public security and law enforcement.
During the talks, Ambassador Wang invited Guterres to attend the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum, which is scheduled to be held in Lianyungang, China, in September.
She noted that cooperation in law enforcement and policing is an important component of practical cooperation between China and Timor-Leste and expressed China’s willingness to further strengthen communication and cooperation in this field.
Ambassador Wang also commended the Timor-Leste government’s recent efforts to combat telecommunications and cyber fraud under the leadership of Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão, saying China stands ready to maintain close cooperation with Timor-Leste on the issue.
Minister Guterres thanked China for its long-standing support in strengthening Timor-Leste’s law enforcement and policing capacity.
He confirmed that he would attend the forum in China and expressed his commitment to working with the Chinese side to further deepen exchanges and cooperation in law enforcement and policing.
