Revolta Club and Telemor partner to promote amateur boxing talent across Timor-Leste
DILI, 05 August 2026 (TATOLI) — Revolta Club, in partnership with Telemor, will launch a nationwide amateur boxing tournament, Municipal War, to identify and develop promising young fighters from across Timor-Leste while creating opportunities for them to compete internationally.
The initiative was announced following the signing of a partnership agreement between Revolta Club and Telemor at Timor Plaza on Wednesday.
Revolta Club Director Xander Maria Almeida da C. Serano said the tournament expands on the club’s previous competitions, which focused primarily on professional boxing.
“This year’s event will prioritize amateur athletes from municipalities to provide more regional boxers with competitive experience,” Xander said during the signing of a partnership agreement at Timor Plaza on Wednesday. “We want to identify talented athletes from every municipality.”
He said that there are still many boxers with great potential who have never had the opportunity to compete.
Xander said the tournament would provide talented athletes with a platform to showcase their abilities.
The tournament is scheduled to begin in September and run for four to five months, with matches held every two weeks under an inter-municipality format. Bouts will be staged in both the eastern (Lorosae) and western (Loromonu) regions of the country.
The tournament is expected to attract around 100 athletes from 10 municipalities. While organizers hope all municipalities in Timor-Leste will eventually take part, only 10 have confirmed their participation in the inaugural edition.
Xander said the winning municipality will earn the opportunity to compete internationally against Indonesian boxers after the national tournament concludes.
He added that participation will be free of charge and that the competition will not separate athletes into junior and senior divisions. Instead, the focus will be on identifying talent and strengthening athletes’ competitive mindset.
“We do not only want to improve the athletes’ technical skills, but also build their mentality. Every athlete has the same opportunity to step into the ring and demonstrate their best performance,” he said.
To support athlete development, each participating municipality will appoint a coach responsible for selecting and training boxers. Municipalities with insufficient numbers of athletes will be allowed to recruit additional participants to ensure they can compete.
Telemor Director General Vu Duc Nguyen said boxing is one of Timor-Leste’s most popular sports because it reflects the values of determination, discipline, resilience and national pride.
He said Telemor’s partnership with Revolta Club goes beyond sponsoring the tournament and aims to help discover a new generation of boxers capable of representing Timor-Leste on the international stage.
“Through this partnership we want to help discover the next generation of talent that can represent Timor-Leste internationally. This is not only about entertainment, but also about creating opportunities and supporting the future of Timor-Leste,” Vu Duc Nguyen said.
He also encouraged the public to follow every match through the Timor TV application, enabling audiences both in Timor-Leste and overseas to watch the Municipal War competition.
In addition to live broadcasts every two weeks, Timor TV will air a three-day special programme featuring athletes’ preparations and activities at boxing clubs in Dili.
Athlete registration will remain open until August 20, while the tournament’s opening ceremony is scheduled for August 30, when organizers will announce the official list of competitors for the inaugural Municipal War tournament.
