F-FDTL to host FELINO Exercise in 2027
DÍLI, 24 August 2026 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste’s Defence Force (F-FDTL) will host the FELINO Exercise 2027, bringing together military personnel from member states of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP).
Timor-Leste formally took over responsibility for hosting next year’s exercise at the closing ceremony of FELINO Exercise 2026 in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná state, Brazil.
Brazil handed the CPLP flag, symbolising the host country for the next exercise, to Timor-Leste during the final session.
Colonel Mário Baptista “Bersama” received the flag on behalf of Timor-Leste, marking the country’s role in leading the next edition of the multinational military exercise.
FELINO Exercise 2026 was held from August 10 to 21 and brought together about 740 military personnel from Brazil, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal and Timor-Leste.
Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe and Cabo Verde did not participate in this year’s exercise.
The exercise focused on peace-support and humanitarian assistance operations, including responses to natural disasters and other emergencies.
It also sought to demonstrate the capacity of CPLP member states to contribute to United Nations peacekeeping and humanitarian operations in different parts of the world.
The annual FELINO exercise is designed to strengthen military cooperation, interoperability and coordination among CPLP armed forces.
Timor-Leste’s hosting of FELINO 2027 will bring the exercise to the country as it continues to deepen defence and security cooperation with CPLP partners.
