TLNCPHA records 155 patients died from AIDS, positive cases at 1374

DILI, 29 november 2021 ( TATOLI) – The National Commission for the Prevention of HIV/AIDS has recorded 155 patients who died from HIV/AIDS while the positive cases are 1374 since 2003-2021.

The Executive Secretary for the National Commission for the Prevention of HIV/AIDS, Atanasio de Jesus said, of the 1374 patients 656 have been receiving active treatment while the rest have not yet received the treatment due to lost contact with the MoH.

“Meanwhile only 656 HIV/AIDS patients have been actively receiving the treatment while the rest are not, as a consequence that we have lost contact with them, MoH together with CNCS – TL have made efforts to find them, however, there is no further information about them, “The Executive Secretary for the National Commission for the Prevention of HIV/AIDS, Atanasio de Jesus informed Tatoli recently at his office.

de Jesus also asks the HIV/AIDS victims to approach the office of CNCS-TL and the clinics to receive the counseling and treatment, adding that their identity will remain confidential by the CNCS-TL.

“The HIV/AIDS patients must be treated early, to prevent them from early death,” he said.

de Jesus at the same time stressed that the disease needs to prevent, however it requires supports and contribution from every party, to avoid the disease’s further expansion.

“This year We have cooperated with the Ministry of Health and other clinics to conduct the socialization to the students, border communities about the effect and the impact of the HIV/AIDS however the number continues to increase every year, thus it needs more effort to be done to raise the community awareness about the disease,” said de Jesus.

According to de Jesus, the CNCT-TL data shows the highest number of HIV/AIDS is recorded in the municipalities of Maliana, Suai, Oekuse, and Baucau.

“To anticipate the increase of HIV/AID number in municipalities, CNCS-TL has collaborated with the Heads of villages to conduct the socialization and raise the community awareness regarding the impact of the HIV/AIDS,”

“During this time we have only conducted the socialization at the school level, but next year we wish to carry out the socialization more in the villages, and we believe that if the campaign about HIV/AIDS is optimized and expanded to the rural areas it will reduce the number of infectious disease within the community, ” He said.
