STAE arranges National Workshop for the preparation on upcoming 2022 Presidential Election

DILI, 22 december 2021 (TATOLI) – The Technical Secretariat of the General Election Administration (STAE) held a workshop with the theme “National Workshop on the upcoming 2022 Presidential Election” that involved the partners and STAE members from 12 municipalities including RAEOA for the preparation of 2022 presidential election.

“We held this workshop to invite all national and municipalities commissioners and international partners to share information about the preparation and what has been accomplished by the STAE for the upcoming presidential election,” STAE National Director Acilino MJTM Branco commented in Timor Leste. Plaza, Dili today.

Branco informed that during the workshop STAE was discussing with participants from the municipality about logistical preparation, human resources, readjustment of registration at National and Overseas, election regulations, as well as procurement of election materials, and the COVID-19 resilient project.

“This National Workshop is also part of the reflection to make better preparations for the 2022 presidential elections. We are working hard to ensure the election is democratic, transparent, and fair elections following the principles of the Democratic Republic Timor-Leste,” said Branco.

Branco added that preparations for the election could be realized with the support of the Government of Timor-Leste and international partners including UNDP, the Embassy of Japan, and the European Union (EU) in Timor-Leste.

“Therefore, on behalf of the Ministry of State Administration (MAE) and all STAE staff, I would like to thank the Government of Timor-Leste and Partners who have always supported STAE in every general election in Timor-Leste so far,”

UNDP Resident Representative Munktuya Altangerel thanked the Japanese Embassy for the great support to the COVID Resistant project, and stated that “this national workshop will ensure to conduct more inclusive and COVID-safe elections, which will enhance democracy and development of the country, Timor Leste”.

At the same place, Japanese Ambassador Masami Kinefuchi said the 2022 Presidential Election was the first Timor – Leste election to be held during the Covid-19 Pandemic said Japan was therefore committed to assisting Timor-Leste’s election to ensure free, fair, and transparent election.

“Japan has been working with UNDP as a partner to support elections in Timor – Leste since 1999 until now, therefore I am pleased to participate in a workshop that will contribute to fair elections in each municipality and thank UNDP for its partnership,” said Kinefuchi.
