DILI, 28 february, 2022 (TATOLI)- Plan International Timor -Leste (PITL) and Minister of Health (MoH) is sharing ideas to the teenage focus on a topic “I lead my body on Health Reproductive”.

Program manager of Plan International, Aleixo Araújo Santos said this training activity aims to share ideas for teenagers and young people to focus on taking care of their bodies. It is helping young people to respect and protect themselves.

“PITL is helping out Timorese teenagers, especially girls, to respect and protect themselves. We are providing the messages to increase their knowledge for reproductive health, Plan International program manager, Aleixo Araújo Santos told reports at City 8, Manleuana, this monday.

He added that early pregnancy mostly affected the girl due to the lack of knowledge about healthy reproduction. They still lack the knowledge of the appropriate age to be married and get pregnant.

Plan International and helping out to provide training focused on reproductive health. They can gain knowledge on what age for women to marry and get pregnant. They can manage themselves to avoid this issue.

“We are educating young people to take care and protect their body and not to contribute to early pregnancy,” He said.

We are providing a special message to share with teenagers, especially girls to protect themselves. The messages are helping teenagers more comprehensively about reproductive health.

“It is required for more guidance offered to the young people. It helps them on control themselves not to access the negative content website,” Mr. Santos added

Plan International has identified that 19% of young people are affected by early pregnancy.

There are 94 young people attending this training focused on “I lead my body” composed of children with GODIVA, ARCOIRIS, AHDMTL, Parliament Foin Sa’e, technology groups, and others.

The plan is that after this conference the 94 young people can share the knowledge with others.

Chief Department of Health Minister Focus on Teenage Health, Silvano Pedro said the Minister of Health has a responsibility to provide advocacy for the reproductive health of young people. Young people must know how to identify their bodies. They are required to avoid early pregnancy.

The Minister of Health asked young people to access health information to avoid the impact of early marriage. It is recommended that all young people have a healthy relationship to avoid early pregnancy.

It is known that teenage is category with age 10 to 19-year-old and young people with age 15 to 24 years old. The early pregnancy is always affected to the girl under 19 years old.

The Minister of Health has provided health center 71 and all centers across the country. It is offering a special service for teenagers to control their body, if it is required.

This one-year training program will be expanding to all municipalities, included of Oecussi Ambeno (RAEOA)

This program is financed by Plan International CANADA in the amount of 94 thousand UDS.
