DILI, 1 march 2022 (TATOLI) – The Vatican’s Apostolic Nuncio to Timor-Leste, Monsignor Marco Sprizzi, said today that Pope Francis’ visit to the country is confirmed.

“We only confirm Pope Francis’ decision to make his visit to Timor-Leste. I also met with him and I confirm his decision”, said the representative of the Holy Father Francisco, after the end of the meeting with the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, at the Government Palace, in Dili.

Monsignor Marco Sprizzi said he did not know the date of the visit “due to different international circumstances. However, Pope Francis’ decision is confirmed to visit Timor-Leste”, he assured.

According to Monsignor Marco Sprizzi, “the thoughts of the Holy See are with the Timorese people and State, at any moment in the democratic life of Timor-Leste”.

Finally, the representative added that Pope Francis “has Timor-Leste in his heart”.

It is recalled that Pope Francis decided to postpone his visit to Timor-Leste, scheduled for september 2020, due to the spread of the new coronavirus.

Pope Francis’ visit to Timor-Leste is part of a travel program to Asia and includes countries such as Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
