DILI, 15 march 2022 (TATOLI) – Intergovernmental Organization of 20 conflict-affected countries (g7+) and the National University of Timor Lorosa’e (UNTL) – public academic institution in Timor-Leste, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a duration of five years from 2022-2027 with the aims to strengthen institutional cooperation in the area of education.
“This collaboration includes three programs, the first is a professional internship for students to learn about the challenges faced by the organization’s member countries, the programs are post-conflict research and the last is a seminar together,” the General-Secretary of g7+ Helder da Costa, on the sidelines of the ceremony at Palace Government in Dili.
“We hope that the lecturer will have more research initiatives and I recommend that policy makers improve their policies in line with the national development process,” he said.
The Secretary General of g7+ also informed that, next week, g7+ in collaboration with UNTL and UNPAZ will conduct a joint seminar on post-election, inviting international observers to share information regarding the electoral process in Timor-Leste.
The Rector of UNTL, João Soares Martins added that this collaboration will increase students’ knowledge of peace and conflict, how to resolve the conflicts and how to promote peace and reconciliation.
“The signing of the agreement aims to facilitate the realization of an in-depth study on conflict resolution. It is intended that university students and researchers, in collaboration with the g7+, carry out this work,” he said.
João Soares Martins, explained that UNTL is committed to collaborating with national and international universities, in conducting a joint investigation to achieve the objective of the g7+.
It is recalled that the g7+ and the University of Peace (UNPAZ) had previously formalized a cooperation agreement in the field of research on world peace and reconciliation.
This partnership will facilitate students’ access to professional internships at the g7+ office, through the organization of joint events and seminars on peace and international relations.
