DILI, 09 may 2022 (TATOLI) – The Dili Municipal Authority through the Department of Market Management and Tourism, raised US$12,500 in revenue between January and April, said DMA Director, Justina Amaral.

According to Amaral, the income DMA collected mostly from parking fees.

“US$12,500 was collected from the four parking lots we built in the capital including Taibessi, Kuluhun, Audian, and Colmera,” Justina Amaral told Tatoli at her office in Matadouro, Dili.

Amaral added that their office plans to build more parking lots in Komoro and Becora.

According to Amaral, parking prices in the four regions have been set to 0.25 cents per hour for cars and 0.10 cents per hour for motorbikes, with payments made from Monday to Friday.

“Revenues are managed by the Dili Municipal Authority and deposited in the BNU bank to be used for State expenditures,”

At the same time, Amaral added that the DMA had problems during fee collection saying because the Authority had limited staff.

“We only have 45 officers so it is difficult for us to collect retribution from motorbikes, especially in four crowded parking lots,”

However, she said, the DMA has submitted a proposal to the Government Ministry of State and Administration (MSA) for the recruitment of 50 parking staff by 2023 to support work in four parking lots across Dili.

“Our team has submitted a proposal to recruit 50 new officers to MSA. We hope this proposal will be approved and offer an opportunity for the DMA to recruit more staff to do the job,” She said.
