TL exports 92.000 tons of coffee to the international market from January to August 2022

Coffee of Timor-Leste

DILI, 13 september 2022 (TATOLI)- Timor-Leste through the Custom of exportation department has exported 92.000 tons of Timorese coffee products to the international market, in eight months.

Deputy of Custom of exportation, Marcos de Oliveira said that Timor-Leste has exported Coffee products with a total of 92.000 tons for eight months, from January to august.

“We have exported coffee to various countries such as Australia, South of Africa, Germany, Belgian, Canada, China, Holand, Indonesia, Japan, Portugal and United States of America,” The deputy of Exportation Custom, Marcos de Oliveira in his office, DILI port, this monday.

Thus, Timor-Leste has exported others products comprising 18 tons of Virgin coconut oil, six tons of Hazelnut, and four tons of teak wood.

The exportation process is completed by national companies such as Acelda Company, Timor Coffee Cooperative (CCT) Timor Global, and others; “These companies mostly focus on exporting Timorese local products to the international market,”

Oliveira explained, however, that the exportation process is completed based on the season, saying otherwise, the number of the products is limited caused of harvesting failure.

“Sometimes, we delay the exportation process due to failure in harvesting time. Its impacts for the lack of local product,” He added

In addition to those products, TL also exports aluminum, and metal to Indonesia, Singapura, Malaysia, and others.

Previously, Director General of Coffee and Plan industrial, Raimondu Mau said, according to the Government policy, MAF will rehabilitate the old coffee tree and plant coffee seeds.

To ensure the identification of local products, Ministery Agriculture and Fishery plan to cultivate coffee on 500 hectares in eight municipalities.

Eight municipalities comprise of Ermera, Lequica, Bobonaro, Aileu, AInaro, Manufahi, Manatuto and Baucau.

“We have provided nursery coffee seeds in Fatukeru Ermera municipality and will distribute them to the eight municipalities. The seeds are composed of coffee seeds, industrial trees, and others,’’ He said
