Barry’s Place mobilized 16 Ataúru local people to work on eco-tourism

Ataúru 03, may 2023 (TATOLI) – Barry’s Place mobilized 16 residents of Ataúru to carry out ecotourism activities in the municipality of Ataúru.

Barry Place Eco-Tourism, Operational Manager, Barry Hilton said, these employees work to support snorkeling activities and other works.

“We mobilized 16 Ataúru people to work on tourism activities and 10 employees to work in eco-lodges, and six workers guide tourists to snorkel, most of whom are from Atauro and they are skilled people,” said Operations Manager Barry Hilton to TATOLI in Beloi Village, Wednesday.

He added, of the 10 workers at the eco-lodge, five workers take care of lodging and five other workers work in food service and also work in the kitchen to provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner, while the other six are fishermen whose job is to guide tourists, to do snorkeling activities around the marine protected area.

“Everyone works very professionally and is able to provide good service to guests,” he said.

Haltom also revealed the challenges faced by Barry’s Place, especially during the Covid-19 period.

“This place faced great challenges during the covid-19 period. There are more than 15 staff unemployed due to lack of income from 2019 to 2021. 15 staff including carpenters, gardeners, and cleaners. We lost three years of revenue and we decided to terminate their contract, but Barris Place Eco Tourism will deploy more staff when the country’s economy returns to normal.” he added.

According to Barry Hilton in 2018, the hotel receives more than 100 international tourists every month.

“We hope that the situation will return to normal and we can contribute to the diversification of the economy, by deploying more staff,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Barry’s Place Eco Tourism Ataúru was established in 2004, with 18 cottages available and more than 100 rooms, each room costs $50 per day including breaks, lunch, and dinner.
