DILI, 25 july 2023 ( TATOLI)– The Ministry of Higher Education Science and Culture (MHESC), has decided to drop the construction of the Timor-Leste University town (Sidade Universitaria Aileu), located in Aileu while focusing on investment in the National University of Timor-Lorosa’e.
This subject was informed by the Minister of Higher Education José Honorio Jeronimo to Tatoli at the Government Palace in Dili, today.
He said the decision to stop the construction was made at a meeting of the Council of Ministers.
“The Ninth Constitutional Government has decided to stop the construction project for ‘Sidade Universitaria Aileu’ because it is unnecessary and wishes to invest more in UNTL to develop the quality of students as well as ensure the quality of higher education in Timor-Leste,” Minister, Jeronimo told TATOLI at the Dili Palace Government.

Previously, Gov’t had officially laid the first foundation stone on the 24-hectare land located in the village of Lausin,

Aileu Municipality, on December 21, 2021, as space for the construction of Sidade Universitaria.
While the total payment compensation made by the 8th constitutional government for the land residents is worth $2.1 million and already lost $1,037,987 in compensation from the families.
Meanwhile, the eighth Constitutional Government also allocated $550,000 to pay Bernabad International Architectural Consultants in Timor-Leste and a consultant from Spain for design and feasibility studies for the construction of Sidade Universitario
