DILI 03 august 2023 (TATOLI)- Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres at the 25th World Scout Jamboree, which was held in Saemangeum, Republic of Korea, reminded again that the world needs the eternal values embodied by scouts.
On the official website accessed by Tatoli, he emphasized that this meeting brought together scouts from all over the world. And this confluence comes at a tumultuous time marked by conflict, climate change, hunger, poverty, division, and inequality.
“Today, more than ever, we need the enduring values embodied in scouting. Responsibility. Diversity and inclusivity, Local and global citizenship,” explains António Guterres. “Personally I want to thank all of you who are working to advance the Sustainable Development Goals in your communities.”
The Scout Generation is a beacon of hope and unity as the world strives to forge a better, fairer, and more peaceful future. That’s why the United Nations established its first Youth Office to capitalize on young people’s ideas, innovation, and leadership.
The United Nations recognizes that there can be no global stability, no gender equality, and no end to hunger, poverty, and climate destruction without young people. So, be brave, don’t be afraid, and keep fighting for a better future.
“Let your voice resound in the halls of power. Support each other – and inspire each other. Continue to extend your hand and heart to your community – and our world. You can count on my support,” he stressed.
The Jamboree is a Gathering Scout Meeting in the form of a large camp organized by the Scout Movement Kwartir from the branch level to the national level with the participation of 5000 scouts.
The 25th World Scout Jamboree will take place from August 1 to 12, 2023 at SaeManGeum, Jeollabuk-do, and the Republic of South Korea. The theme of the 2023 World Scout Jamboree is “Draw your Dream”.
On this occasion, Timor-Leste also presented 25 delegates from the Timor-Leste National Scout Union (União Nacional dos Escuteiros UNE-TL) and departed on 29 July 2023.
The delegation team that departed consisted of 12 men and 13 women where 16 people were funded directly by the Presidency of the Republic and the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MYSAC) and 9 other people directly from the organizers of the South Korean World Jamboree.
