DILI, 18 september 2023 (TATOLI)–The New Zealand Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Philip Hewitt, today met with Deputy Prime Minister, Mariano Assanami to express New Zealand’s support for Timor-Leste in economic diversification.
“Timor-Leste and New Zealand are good partners, and I came to talk with the Deputy Prime Minister, Mariano Assanami Sabino, about how Timor-Leste and New Zealand can work together on economic diversification and other areas where Timor-Leste needs for supported,” the Ambassador of New Zealand Philip Hewitt told reporters at the Government Palace, Dili on monday.
On the other hand, the two parties also discussed ways to increase cooperation in the fields of education, security, tourism, agriculture, and others.
In the agricultural sector, New Zealand is collaborating with the Timor Coffee Clinic (CCT) to improve the quality of coffee production in Timor-Leste.
“In the education sector, we are working with the Minister of Education to discuss ways to help develop scholarships for the people of Timor Leste, and we are also working with the Timor-Leste National Police (PNTL) in the security sector to protect the community,” he concluded.
