DILI, 05 october 2023 (TATOLI) – The Kameli Timor International School (KTIS) celebrates World Teachers’ Day, in Dili with the theme: “If children can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.”
In her opening remarks, KTIS Director Rini Fatmawati called on all teachers in the country to invest in children by giving them a quality education and opportunities.
She said teachers must use effective teaching strategies and practices to help students reach their potential.
Fatmawati emphasized that in order to invest in the future of a nation, the country must invest in children, saying that teachers must therefore teach children well.
“Investing in children means we are investing in our future,” Fatmawati said at the celebration of World Teacher’s Day, at KTIS, in Dili, on thursday.
More than 25 students showcased their talents at the celebration of teachers’ day in the presence of their proud teachers.
“In today’s celebration, we organize a number of activities, including a poetries reading competition, fashion show, traditional dances, singing, etc.,” she said.
Fatmawati said most of the children at the KTIS are quick learners, saying as a new country, teachers see great hope in the eyes of every child: “When we look at the children of today, we see the leaders of tomorrow.”
“All of them are intelligent. So we just need to help them explore more and of course, we will do our best to teach these children to reach their full potential because who knows some of them might be our future leaders,” Fatmawati added.
World Teachers’ Day is held annually on 5 October to celebrate all teachers around the globe.
World Teachers’ Day commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.
It is a day to celebrate how teachers are transforming education but also to reflect on the support they need to fully deploy their talent and vocation and to rethink the way ahead for the profession globally.
In 2023, World Teachers’ Day celebrations focus on the theme “The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage.”
