DILI, 16 June 2025 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s Defense Minister Pedro Klamar Fuik, accompanied by the Deputy Chief of the Timor-Leste Defense Force (F-FDTL), Major General Calisto Santos Coliati, met with his Indonesian counterpart, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, on the sidelines of the Indonesia Defense Exhibition 2025.
The meeting took place at the Indonesian Ministry of Defense headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 June, from 10:00 to 10:30.
The two ministers also discussed and exchanged views on strengthening bilateral defense cooperation, including military education and the Indonesian Defense Scholarship Program, to further support the development of the Timor-Leste Armed Forces as part of broader human resource development efforts.
In the afternoon, from 14:30 to 15:00, Major General Calisto Santos Coliati also met with the Chief of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) General Agus Subiyanto at the Jakarta International Exhibition (EXPO) in Kemayoran, Jakarta.
During the meeting, Major General Coliati expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) for their continued support to the Timor-Leste Armed Forces (F-FDTL).
The two Generals also discussed and exchanged information on issues related to military cooperation and committed to continuing to enhance joint military exercises, border security management, and armed forces training programs between Timor-Leste and Indonesia.
Coliati congratulated Indonesia on the organization of the Defense Exhibition and Defense Partnership for Global Peace and Stability which was outstanding.
Major General Coliati also had a cordial discussion with Lieutenant General Derek Macaulay, Deputy Commander of the United Nations Command – Canadian Army, on issues related to efforts to promote peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Roberto Soares, accompanied the Minister and the Deputy Chief of the Timor-Leste Defence Force (F-FDTL) during their visit. The meeting was highly productive, offering a valuable opportunity to strengthen cooperation and expand networking.
