DILI, may 13, 2021 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres Lú Olo, extended his official greetings to everyone who celebrates Eid al-Fitr in Timor-Leste.
“It is with great pleasure that, on behalf of myself and my family, we send our warmest greetings to all who celebrate Eid al-Fitr, which closes the month of Ramadan, dedicated mainly to fasting, prayer, and solidarity, in Timor-Leste and the world, ”said the Head of State in a statement released yesterday.
Lú Olo also recalled the date represents the values of solidarity.
“Eid is a time to reflect on the 30 days spent fasting and to renew the commitment to the values of gratitude, compassion, and solidarity. Above all, Eid is a time to get together and celebrate with our loved ones, ”he said.
The President of the Islamic National Council of Timor-Leste, Pascoal Sidiq Lemorai, said that, at this time, the Muslim community in Timor-Leste did not celebrate the day in the Mosque due to the Government enforced lock-downs to address the spread of COVID-19.
“Because of the pandemic and the implementation of the sanitary fence and mandatory confinement, every individual celebrated the day in their homes,” he said.
The religious leader also recalled that the Muslim community in the world is celebrating the 1442nd Eid al-Fitri Aniversary including Timor-Leste.
