DILI, 08 April 2026 (TATOLI) – TradeInvest Timor-Leste held a courtesy meeting with delegations from the United States and the Netherlands, with both sides expressing strong interest in exploring investment opportunities in the newest Southeast Asian nation.
The meeting was led by the outgoing Executive Director of TradeInvest, Arcanjo da Silva, accompanied by the Director of External Relations and Marketing and the Director of Investment Promotion.
The United States delegation was represented by Peter Thompson, Advisor on International Trade and Investment to the President of the Republic.
The Netherlands delegation was represented by Hendrik Halbe, a venture capital investor and founder with extensive experience in business and entrepreneurship.
Key discussions during the meeting included a proposed scholarship program initiated by Hendrik Halbe to support Timorese youth in the fields of management and business.
The delegations also presented potential investment initiatives under the “Unknown Group,” including plans to establish a new higher education institution in Dili.
In addition, both parties exchanged views on promoting Timor-Leste as a credible and attractive destination for international investment.
During the meeting, the outgoing Executive Director provided an overview of the role, functions, and institutional mandate of TradeInvest Timor-Leste as the national agency responsible for investment and export promotion, in accordance with Decree-Law No. 58/2022.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Executive Director expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed TradeInvest Timor-Leste’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with international partners in support of national economic development.
