DILI, April 13, 2026 — The President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, met with g7+ Secretary-General Helder da Costa on Monday to discuss the current global situation and its impact on g7+ member states.
During the meeting, da Costa updated the president on political transitions and institutional challenges in the Solomon Islands, as well as the roles of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia as the group’s vice-presidents.
These nations, currently serving as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, are committed to amplifying the collective voice of fragile and conflict-affected states on the world stage.
The dialogue also highlighted Timor-Leste’s proactive diplomacy in regional conflicts, including recent expressions of solidarity with the United Arab Emirates regarding tensions in the Middle East. Furthermore, Helder da Costa informed the President of a scheduled high-level coordination between Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão and the President of Sierra Leone, acting as the the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Chair. This diplomatic effort seeks to find collaborative solutions to the ongoing situation in Guinea-Bissau, reinforcing Timor-Leste’s commitment to supporting stability and peace among its partner nations.
President Ramos-Horta invited the g7+ Secretariat to play a pivotal role in the preparations for the upcoming Nobel Prize Conference, to be held in Dili from August 25–26.
The President emphasized that the g7+’s expertise would be vital in drafting the conference’s final declaration and shaping its substantive agenda.
Looking ahead, Ramos-Horta expressed his continued support for strong global leadership at the United Nations level, underscoring his dedication to fostering international cooperation and sustainable development for all member states.
