DILI, 04 June 2026 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos-Horta, welcomed the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Michael George DeSombre at the Nicolau Lobato International Airport and drove him to his accommodation with President mini Moke, as part of the American envoy’s official two-day visit to Timor-Leste on June 4-5, 2026.
During their discussion, President Ramos-Horta and Assistant Secretary DeSombre explored strategic avenues to enhance bilateral programs, promote regional stability, and boost Timor-Leste’s active engagement in various regional and international fora.
The visit notably coincided with the ongoing commemorations of America’s 250th independence anniversary, serving as a powerful backdrop to reaffirm the two nations’ shared core values of freedom, democracy, sovereignty, and self-determination.
The dialogue concluded with a mutual reinforcement of strategic goals across the Indo-Pacific region.
The United States underscored its steadfast commitment to working closely with Timor-Leste to further strengthen bilateral ties, support the nation’s regional integration efforts, and advance shared objectives for lasting peace, security, and prosperity.
