DÍLI, 21 July 2026 (TATOLI) — Timor-Leste’s monthly inflation rate remained at 0.2% in June, unchanged from the previous month, according to data released by the National Statistics Institute of Timor-Leste (INE-TL).
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed that the increase was mainly driven by higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, which rose 0.3%. Communications prices increased by 0.4%, while transport costs went up by 0.1%.
Within the food and non-alcoholic beverages category, the largest price increase was recorded for oils and fats, which rose 2.5%. Prices also increased for vegetables (0.5%), fruit (0.6%), rice (0.2%), and sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery products (0.3%).
However, some categories recorded price declines. Household maintenance equipment and furniture prices fell by 0.4%, while alcohol and tobacco prices decreased by 0.1%.
“Reductions were recorded in the prices of coffee, tea and cocoa (2%), milk, cheese and eggs (1%), and bread (0.1%),” INE-TL said in a report obtained by TATOLI.
Compared with June 2025, Timor-Leste’s annual inflation rate stood at 0.5% in June 2026.
The annual increase was mainly influenced by higher transport prices, which rose by 7%, followed by food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.8%), housing (0.5%), education (0.3%), and communications (0.1%).
Meanwhile, prices declined in several categories, including alcoholic beverages and tobacco (-2.8%), household maintenance equipment and furniture (-1.6%), recreation and culture (-0.6%), and clothing and footwear (-0.2%).
