TIC conducts training on Interconnecting Networks Concepts for Inter-Ministerial IT Staff

TIC’s Executive Director, Roberto Caetano de Sousa Vicente

DILI, 12 july 2021 (TATOLI) – The Information and Communication Technology Agency I.P. (TIC) launches a 10-day training on Interconnecting Networks Concepts and Configuration of Networks Devices for the IT Staff members of the government Inter-Ministerial institutions.

TIC’s Executive Director, Roberto Caetano de Sousa Vicente said that 24 IT staff members from 16 State institutions in Timor-Leste will be attending the 10-day training to increase their capacity on network configuration to improve network performance at their institutions.

“The aim of the training is to share knowledge and information on advanced network configuration to improve the capacity of the IT staff members. So that, when they finish the training, they will be able to manage the network system in their institution, including configuration, design and securing the network system,” Vicente made the comments during the opening ceremony of the training at the Police Academic Training Centre in Comoro, Dili, today.

He said the training was important as the IT staff members will be having no difficulties when moving to work in another government institution: “If they move from one ministry to work in another institution, it is the same system and they have knowledge about it.”

He said one of TIC’s roles is to centralize information of all ministries in order to reduce the investment in Government Communication and Information systems, in every term of the government.

“Centralizing information in a data center is important for the next government to use that information and data. For instance, Timor-Leste embassies abroad could keep all of their information and data in one e-government data center. Otherwise, the new government will have to begin from zero and it needs huge investment,” said Vicente.

The module structure for the training was designed in accordance with the curriculum of CISCO, a networking hardware and software company based in California, USA, according to Vicente.

At the same place, an IT staff member from Betano Polytechnic Institute (IPB), Eligio Antonio Tilman Ximenes thanked TIC for organizing the training, saying it was such a good opportunity for him to learn more about interconnection networks, particularly on network configuration and design.

“It is my first time attending this kind of training and I would use this opportunity seriously to level up my knowledge and skills on interconnecting networks. Hoping that I will gain valuable knowledge to manage network systems in my workplace,” Ximenes added.
