DILI, 22 June 2026 (TATOLI) – The Peace Corps is pleased to welcome eight new volunteers to Timor-Leste. These Volunteers will serve in education and community economic development, supporting local partners and communities while strengthening the longstanding friendship between the people of Timor-Leste and the United States.
“Before beginning their assignments, the Volunteers will participate in an intensive 11-week Pre-Service Training (PST),” said in a statement.
PST provides language instruction in Tetum, cross-cultural training, health and safety preparation, and technical training designed to equip Volunteers for successful service. During PST, they will live with Timorese host families and fully immerse themselves in local communities.
Following PST, the Volunteers will be sworn in and assigned to communities throughout Timor-Leste. Education Volunteers will work alongside Timorese teachers to strengthen English language instruction in pre-secondary and secondary schools. Community Economic Development Volunteers will partner with local organizations, training centers, cooperatives, and community groups to support workforce development, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and organizational capacity building.
Since returning to Timor-Leste in 2003, Peace Corps Volunteers have worked closely with communities to support locally identified priorities while promoting mutual understanding and cultural exchange. The arrival of this new group continues the Peace Corps’ commitment to supporting Timor-Leste’s development goals through partnership, service, and friendship.
