DILI, 14 September 2020 (TATOLI)– European Union (EU) announced $707.000 to TANE Association consumer of Timor-Leste.
EU Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Andrew Jacobs said, the association fund aimed to protect the right of consumer which has been secured in the law no 8/2016, from 8 of July, as a fundamental right to improve the autonomy participation and the critical attitude of consumers.
“I am very delighted to be presence in TANE consumers activity. TANE in the collaboration with a Portuguese defense consumer association DECO, is receiving the budget from the EU with the amount of €620.000 which is equivalent to $707.000),” Andrew Jacobs, EU Ambassador said today (14/09/020), at the National University of Timor-Leste, Caicoli Dili.
Mr. Jacob also hopes the fund will protect the right of the consumers, where the EU has directly implemented the project within four years to promote the policy to Timor-Leste defense consumer and Timorese consumers to ensure market and public organization to be well informed consumers and strengthen.
He added, the consumer’s right for the quality of goods and the works of consuming are receiving the right information, health protection, security and their economic interests, to the underline a statement from article 53 it says we should know our right of usage. We cannot use anything when there is no information about it,” he said.
Thus Mr Jacob said, the EU is working with the TANE association along with the local and private association to establish the program that is important for the consumers with great purpose for the sustainability development, and strengthen the association with aiming for information, education, training, representation, and consumer mobilisation.
