LAUTÉM, 23 september 2020 (TATOLI)– The International Labour Organization (ILO) through the project Enhancing Rural Access Agroforestry (ERA-AF) together with the European Union (EU) launched a trial agreement of rural roads in the Lautem and Manatuto Municipalities.
The project is funded by the European Union to the value of $1 million.
The Representative of EU, Paolo Toselli, said, that the EU is proud of the development progress in Timor-Leste, especially the development of rural roads.
“We promise to continue to support Timor-Leste through activities such as these,” he said.
The office Representative of ILO in Timor-Leste and also the manager of the ERA-AF project, Albert Urivo is appreciative of the involvement of the EU in this project with their financial support.
Jeferino dos Santos Sequira, Lautem Authority acknowledges the design project prepared by ILO.
“This type of project is enough for us, it allows our community to access to the local market, and other important places,” he said.
Mr Sequeira asked the development partners to ensure the quality of roads such as the rural roads in Lautem and Manatuto should be constructed in a short amount of time.
The Chief of Caenlio Village, Julião Soares, welcomed the rehabilitation project as it will help the movements of the community.
“I hope the project will help all rural communities from both villages, especially Iliomar village which has been complaining about the roads,” he said.
Rural roads which need to be constructed in Lautem, Caenlio village is approximately 10.78 km in length. This particular road project will be the responsibility of four contractors, which include Ilie Chao unipessoal, Lda, Irmão Unidos Construction Unip.Lda, Fuiloro Unip.Lda, and Om Brother, Lda.
Caidavalarin and Liufalun, roads are 1.43 kilometres in length and will be constructed by Saras unipessoal, Lda. And other rural roads that will be constructed are Souro and Loturula roads, are 2.3-kilometre roads, contracted to Tchai ba Celeiro Unip.Lda.
While the Zoro Construction Unip will implement a 3.5-kilometre road between Souro, Nairete and Leuro.
Ryzena, unip. Lda will construct the other rural roads in the Manatuto district such as Ainicolau-Robae and Robae-Hatu ana hun, Laclo, with a 3,3-kilometer long and other roads rehabilitation is in Boarsamanu-Manufahi with 3.3 kilometres long.
